Monday Blahs

January 15th, 2007 at 01:23 pm

I hate Mondays. Especially when its a holiday and it seems everyone else in the world has it off from work except me.

So the $20 challenge is confusing for me. I don't understand how you do it. I've read a lot of posts about it and it seems everyone does it differently. If someone could explain it, I'd appreciate it!

This year, I've decided to save $5 bills. I'm already up to $55. Also, I'm not spending my change. I'm saving all coins that I get when I use cash. Already I'm up to $11 or so. Yesterday I transferred all my change from a jar to a 3 liter water bottle with the cap super-glued on. I cut a slot in the top of the bottle so I can't get money out of it. So I won't be able to count it again until the end of the year when I cut the top off. I've heard you can save $300-500 in a year doing this. That would be just what I need for Christmas shopping.

That is an awesome idea. I may have to try that myself. I am so bad about "borrowing" against myself.

Great start for a challenge. What I do is any money saved I add it to my challenge. For example if I pay a bill on line I add $.39 for the stamp I would have used, if I save at the grocery store using coupons I add that amount. I also round up my change, and any money that is wasted for example, if I pack my lunch and eat out I match this amount and add it to the challenge. The goal is to save and find ways that works for you and that is fun too. Good luck

You really can do anything you want in the $20 challenge. You start with $20 and try and see how much you can save doing different things.
I save all my change and cash it in once a month. I take all the money I make from coupons and using my store card.
I sell things. I pay myself $1 for every mile I walk and every 20 flights of stairs I take.
I take surveys and save that cash. Just anything you can do to make extra money.

I have to work today too so you're not the only one! Everyone has a different take on the $20 challenge. I admire everyone's way but decided it wasn't something I want to do right now. I do save my change and will see after a year how much I save that way.
